Who the heck is Chris Calef and what does he know, anyway?

I don't want to take up a lot of space here with my personal bio, but I thought it might be worth describing a little bit of my history, just so you know where I'm coming from. First of all, I'm self-taught when it comes to programming. I took a class or two back in high school, but that was almost twenty years ago and had no real impact on my current knowledge. What this means is I know exactly where you're coming from, if you are starting the process of learning to code and it seems extremely daunting. It can be done, and all you really need is time, patience, an internet hookup, and a power source.

I played with Basic, etc. as a kid, and have been coding in my adult life for about ten years, professionally for six or seven. I've used perl, Visual Basic, SQL, LISP, C, C++, and probably a few other languages that I'm not remembering. I've had jobs ranging from Access database design and perl CGI programming to designing and coding an educational 3D game for kids. (Called WalkSmart, it was for teaching basic pedestrian safety skills to kids age 6-8 or so. As far as games go, it pertty much sucked, but it was a good learning experience!)

Currently I am working on my own games and content packs, as well as serving as a contractor to Garage Games on special assignments, such as this one. For more information about me, see my Garage Games profile page.
